World Shipping (China) Summit 2007 held in Tianjin, China

¡¡¡¡The Fourth World Shipping (China) Summit 2007, is held in Tianjin, China on November 1-2. Dai Xianglong, Mayor of Tianjin Municipal People¡¯s Government, Zhang Guobao, Vice Chairman of National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of China, Weng Mengyong, Vice Minister, Ministry of Communications of China, and many others attend and address this summit.
¡¡¡¡The year 2007 has seen no let-up of the boom in the shipping industry. The ever-growing demand, the increase in dry bulk freight, the recovery in the container business, the torrent of new shipbuilding orders are creating opportunities and challenges. Moreover, the capital market is giving renewed backing to shipping, and funds are flowing into the business. So ¡°Riding the wave  was chosen as the main topic. ¡¡¡¡Brief Report
¡¡¡¡CCS-DNV Technology Institute, a joint venture between the two leading class societies ¡ª China Classification Society and Det Norske Veritas, is inaugurated on October 29 in Shanghai. The institute is the first of its kind in China. It aims to support both the maritime and offshore industries on various laboratory and research challenges. The first phase will focus on coating testing to respond to the IMO rules on PSPC. The Institute will expand its laboratory services into fuel; lube oil testing and materials and strength during the next phases.
