¡¡¡¡¡ôJuly31st, China Merchants Holdings (Pacific) Limited announced a net profit after tax of HKD98 million for the second quarter ended 30 June 2008, up 11% from the HKD88.3 million recorded in the previous corresponding quarter. For the first six months of 2008, net profit after tax increased 26% to HKD179.2 million from HKD142 million a year ago. ¡¡¡¡¡ôOcean Guaranteed has opened its first inland point of origin in Asia: Guangzhou, China. ¡¡¡¡When launched, Ocean Guaranteed provided service from Hong Kong, Shanghai and Shenzhen in China, to all continental US destinations served by Con-way Freight. This latest expansion enables shippers sourcing in China’s Pearl River Delta to use Ocean Guaranteed from Guangzhou. APL Logistics provides secure transport from Guangzhou to the load port of Hong Kong. ¡¡¡¡¡ôAug. 4th, MOL is behind an order at Hyundai-Samho for ten 5,600 TEU ships to be delivered in 2011. The ships are chartered from the Schulte Group. Their assignment is not yet known, although they make a good fit on the FE-ECSA or FE-WCSA sectors, where MOL has a strong presence. It is recalled that Hamburg Sud and Maersk Line have recently booked ships of 7,000-7,500TEU for the ECSA trades.
