Container throughput in May

¡¡¡¡HK Port drops 12%
¡¡¡¡statistics published by HK Port Development Council show that in May HK container throughput was 1.792 million TEUs, down by 12.2% y-o-y, but that ring growth achieved 6.9%. This evident narrowing of the volume decline has been the best indicator since December last year. In the first 5 months, the total throughput reached 8.096 million TEUs, down by 18.2%.

¡¡¡¡Shanghai Port down 13.57%
¡¡¡¡statistics from the MOT Statistics Department show that in May container throughput in Shanghai Port was 2.08 million TEUs, down by 13.57% y-o-y. However, ring growth achieved 6.67%. In the first 5 months, the total throughput reached 9.6818 million TEUs, down by 15.2%.

¡¡¡¡Singapore Port 20.3% setback
¡¡¡¡Singapore Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) announced its May container throughput at 2.098 million TEUs, plunging 20.3%, which is the first more than 20% drop since the economic crisis began. Although box volume increased slightly (by 6%) over April, the 14.5% drop in March and 17.7% decline in April are pushing negatively, creating this downward tendency. In the first 5 months, total throughput reached 10.201 million TEUs, down by 18.4%.
