¡¡¡¡statistics published by HK Port Development Council show that in May HK container throughput was 1.792 million TEUs, down by 12.2% y-o-y, but that ring growth achieved 6.9%. This evident narrowing of the volume decline has been the best indicator since December last year. ¡¡¡¡Singapore Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) announced its May container throughput at 2.098 million TEUs, plunging 20.3%, which is the first more than 20% drop since the economic crisis began. Although box volume increased slightly (by 6%) over April, the 14.5% drop in March and 17.7% decline in April are pushing negatively, creating this downward tendency. In the first 5 months, total throughput reached 10.201 million TEUs, down by 18.4%.
