¡¡¡¡June 10th, Premier Wen Jiabao presided over the State Council executive meeting, which discussed and passed in principle the Jiangsu Coastal Area Development Planning. With this, thee development of Jiangsu coastal areas based on Lianyungang Port has been incorporated into the National Development Strategy.
¡¡¡¡The focus has been clearly positioned by the State Council executive meeting as to speed up the construction of the Oriental Bridgehead on the new Eurasian Continental Bridge and to promote the rational use of coastal resources. Meanwhile, Lianyungang Port has also been confirmed as an intern-ational, integrated ocean-going hub and a container port, to expand sea-rail combined transport services backed up by the continental bridge.
¡¡¡¡Yu Xiangyang, Chairman of Lianyun-gang Port Group, said that the port will further increase the development of the hinterland market, strengthen opening up of domestic supply, construct more inland ports, and expand port functions to realise seamless connection with northern Jiangsu, the central and western regions as well as markets along the continental bridge. On the other hand, the port will speed up infrastructure construction, strengthen cooperation with major shipping companies to increase the density of freight services and enhance the comprehensive services of the port.
