- Can maintain the best freshness through real-time temperature monitoring
- Will adopt the system after a thorough analysis of the trial
Hyundai Merchant Marine has announced that it is starting the trial operation of Internet of Things (IoT) technology to its refrigerating containers starting from August 21st. With this technology, HMM can monitor and manage the temperature of refrigerated goods real-time with wherever the Internet is accessible.
Without IoT technology, carriers provide information of the refrigerated goods to its customers, with crewmembers onboard checking the temperature every 12 hours.
As it is crucial for refrigerated containers with temperature-sensitive products to maintain a certain level of temperature during its voyage through hot and cold regions, adopting IoT technology will bolster its freshness maintenance, hence upgrading HMM¡¯s service.
HMM will carry on its trial operation of IoT technology for ten refrigerated containers until October, and decide on adopting the technology after thorough analysis on test-run results - such as cost saving, service improvement and etc. Moreover, cargo and transportation information gathered through IoT technology can be shared among the involved parties through blockchain technology hence adopting IoT technology is positively reviewed.
HMM official commented ¡°we are reviewing various ways to improve our service and its quality through adopting IT technologies¡± and that ¡°by adopting the high-end IT technologies in shipping and logistics, we will become one of the pioneers of the Fourth Industrial Revolution within the industry.¡±
